Welcome to The Take from NúBlack, a publication and budding community for Black professionals endeavoring to be who they are, do what they want, and live their life unapologetically — and the people who love and serve them. Together, we examine the ideas, messages, and everyday experiences that shape how we exist in the world and challenge each other to be real, keep growing, and go after what we want.
Why We Exist
The experiences of Black high-achieving professionals are unique. We spend much of our lives building the fluency to exist in spaces where most people are unlike us and unknowingly hold the expectation that becoming more like them is the key to unlocking our success.
NúBlack exists in service of Black professionals — they are the center. We work to witness, validate, and examine the experiences of Black high-achieving professionals, what those experiences can cost, and the impact they have on who we get to be, what we believe we can do, and how we approach living our lives as a result.
This space is for Black professionals seeking community as they try to reframe deficiency mindsets and take a more balanced and compassionate approach to figuring themselves out. Peripherally, it is also for non-Black people who seek to better understand the experiences of the Black professionals they work with or serve, without creating the additional labor linked to the burden of explanation.
Our Value to You
We define our success by the impact we have on The Center — which we know to be inherently valuable, undeniably capable, and immeasurable by the external expectations that stop us from flourishing. We self-define our success by your ability to self-define and trust in that truth too. And we are glad, as a bonus, when others also find value and inspiration in our work.
